Metro West Ambulance has been a trusted provider of emergency medical services in the Pacific Northwest for over 70 years. Founded in 1953 by James B. Fuiten, the company began as Fuiten Ambulance – an extension of the family’s funeral home, Fuiten’s Chapel in the Grove, located in Forest Grove, Oregon. With a single 1946 DeSoto and a commitment to 24-hour emergency response, Fuiten Ambulance introduced one of the first around-the-clock ambulance services to western Washington County.
As the region grew, so did the company. In 1963, services expanded to Hillsboro. A decade later, Fuiten Ambulance merged with Butler Ambulance of Beaverton, forming what is now known as Metro West Ambulance. That same year, the organization launched one of the area’s first paramedic training programs – transitioning from funeral directors and college student crews to professionally trained emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
Now led by second-generation owner J.D. Fuiten, Metro West has grown into a family of 12 companies with more than 1,500 employees, providing high-quality medical transportation services throughout the Pacific Northwest.
From a single vehicle in 1953 to a multi-state operation, Metro West remains grounded in family values, community service, and a commitment to innovation in pre-hospital care.
