Paramedics are assigned to ALS ambulances and provide advanced life support services for the citizens of Washington County. Paramedics also perform non-emergency interfacility services in an ALS equipped ambulance.

Paramedics also serve in the Special Events Division, which provides medical coverage for the Portland Trailblazers, Indy Car Races, concerts, county and state fairs, and many other social and sporting events throughout the state.

We’re Expanding Our Metro West Mobile Integrated Health Programs

Metro West Ambulance is hiring Mobile Health Paramedics!  Metro West Ambulance is an established leader in mobile integrated health care and are proud to partner with area health systems in providing innovative, mobile health care services focusing on both readmission avoidance, treatment of low acuity medical conditions and chronic disease management. Our programs offer unique services that go beyond traditional, episodic emergency care and move towards a longitudinal approach to a patient’s overall health and wellness.

We are seeking motivated, highly skilled clinicians that are able to effectively triage based on a patient’s symptoms, physical assessment, and medical history, and accurately convey findings to other medical professionals in the care team.  Mobile health paramedics possess clinical acumen in emergency medicine and chronic disease management.  They understand the role of primary care and the important part mobile integrated health clinicians play in navigating patients in the health care system.  Mobile health paramedics are passionate about providing excellent care and customer service.  They are excellent communicators who are able to assist patients in the understanding of complex medical conditions and diagnosis, and they are able to demonstrate empathy with patients and family using skills of motivational interviewing and emotional intelligence.  Successful mobile health paramedics work well alone and in teams. They possess stellar time management skills. They are detail oriented, efficient and tech savvy.

The ideal candidate has a minimum 3 years’ experience working in a high performance EMS system. Additional clinical training in remote medicine, critical care, pharmacology, social work or completion of a Community Care Paramedic Education Program preferred but not required.

Duties include the repair and maintenance of ambulances and vans in a timely and accurate manner. Specifically, engine and fuel systems diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting and repair, brake and electrical system work, front line mechanic inspections and preventive maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma, or equivalent education
  • 2 years recent and verifiable Line Mechanic experience
  • 2 ASE Certifications (Truck or Automotive series). Preferably Brake and Steering / Suspension
  • AC Certification or equivalent ASE Certification
  • Proficient with computers
  • Must have a full set of personal tools (specialty tools will be provided)
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
  • An ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area
  • Ability to read, interpret, understand and complete repairs utilizing repair manuals

Who We Are

Founded in 1953 by the Fuiten family, we are distinguished as the longest running owner-operated ambulance service in the Pacific Northwest.  We started as a basic first aid operation in Forest Grove and, in 1973, began the transition to become the full-spectrum emergency and non-emergency healthcare transportation service we are today. Our ambulance services provide advanced life support and medical transportation services in Southwest Washington State and Western Oregon from Portland to Astoria, Seaside, Lincoln City, Newport, and Coos Bay. Our wheelchair vans are staffed by an EMT’s trained to deliver the highest level of care and customer service. Each has passed a rigorous screening process. Our clean and spacious vehicles provide independence to the people we serve. Wheelchair Van Transportation provides bed-to-bed service day or night. All vehicles are equipped with wheelchairs and oxygen supplies.

Dispatcher Position Summary

Metro West is looking for applicants with a drive and passion for serving our customers.  Our dispatchers are responsible for efficiently and reliably directing resources in our emergent and non-emergent system.  This can be a demanding, fast paced environment so all applicants must be prepared to deal with the challenging, and at times stressful conditions that arise within the position.  While the challenges are a part of the position, working with our clients and staff offers even greater rewards.  The satisfaction gained from succeeding and thriving in this demanding environment can be immeasurable.  Previous experience as a dispatcher is beneficial but not required.  Our training program will prepare you for the work; however, applicants must be highly motivated and fast learners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive telephone calls and listen to callers to accurately ascertain the nature of the call and respond with the appropriate service.
  • Enter information at a workstation computer terminal while continuing to question and listen to the customer.
  • Deploy the appropriate resources to meet the emergency and non-emergency needs of the system.
  • Adjust questioning style based upon the customer’s request.
  • Schedule appointments based on the customer’s needs.
  • Maintain accurate record of customer contacts.
  • Identification of problems and opportunities.
  • Maintain effective communications with all individuals, departments and customers.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of company dispatch procedures as well as Washington County dispatch protocols.
  • Actively participate in continuing education and maintain all required certifications.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Provide oversight of the communication center activity in the absence of supervisory staff.

Hiring Process

Once we receive your application and resume, you will be sent a study guide and scheduled a date to take an examination based on the study material.  If you pass the examination, you will be scheduled for a series of interviews, background check and a typing test.  All successful applicants will be trained on-the-job in an extremely fast paced and challenging environment with exceptionally high standards.
